can I use a ceramic bowl to bake?
Hey guys so I'm useing a big ceramic bowl to bake a cake (it needs to be in the shape of a bowl). It's sort of like the ones you use for popcorn but thicker. WILL IT EXPLODE???

we have used pottery bowls, stainless steel bowls, etc for years for baking cakes, as ramekins, etc.
set the bowl in a larger pan of hot water to make sure it doesn't explode while baking. Will take longer to bake!! Do you have a turkey nail? do you have a piece of copper tubing? you can stand either in center of bowl so the center of the cake cooks a bit faster then the outside of the cake won't burn while waiting for the center to bake!!
I splurged and bought one of the Wilton Wonder Molds several years ago to use for this sort of cake!! Think I gave it to one of my daughters when I quit baking fancy cakes!

Check the bottom of the bowl to see if it is marked as ovensafe. If it is , you're good to go.
Possum
If it's Pyrex, it should be OK.

If it doesn't say "oven safe"....don't try it.
