What's this brown stuff on my walls?

So today I noticed two holes on my wall that are filled with this brown stuff. It's pretty gross and I'd like to get the problem taken care of.

I haven't really done much to them, just scraped off what was poking out but that just left the brown stuff underneath. I also have some on the ceiling that have been there for a really long time.

Also, I remember I had these things on the same wall years and years ago when I was a kid, but I have no idea what happened to them. I just remember poking through the brown so that's how I know they are holes.

Its mold and the reason its there is because you have to much humidity in your house. Get a dehumidifier and scrub that mold off, if the dehumidifier works you will not have this problem again.

I cant identify it from your picture but it is a possibility it is termite residue. Your best solution is to have it examined by an exterminator then you know what it is and how to get rid of it.
