What is a good brand for a sewing machine? I'm new to sewing and was looking to get a second hand machine to learn on.?

What should I look for in a sewing machine & is there any particular brand or series I should be looking for?
Thank You

My advice is a little different, but check out my previous answer here for that and lot more about sewing machines, learning to sew, etc:

Here are a couple of posts of mine with what I'd be looking for:

What is it you want to sew? If you're mostly interested in working with stretch knits, my suggestions for machines will be different than if you're mostly interested in say, making quilts or jeans.

Thats a good question. I would just make sure it comes along with some good presser foots. If your doing lightweight fabric you might need a walking foot. You will also a button hole foot. You might also want to use one of those really narrow foots for zippers.
