TV: Outlander, what's with all the rape?

I've seen Claire almost get raped more than I've seen her have consentual sex. I get the time frame and everything but it just seems excessive, like the director enjoys watching her get her clothes torn off and held down. I never read the books so I can't compare, does she get raped in like every chapter? It's ridiculous.

I've only noticed 2 the rape attempts, first by Capt. Randall, then a couple of grabbings by Clansmen at the Gathering, Dougal's drunken kiss, then the 2nd rape attempt in the boonies when the redcoats interrupt a bonafide ***** session with her husband....There is a LOT of sex in the books

During that time in history, it's very common to have lots of rape.
A lot of the men there were pigs, and took what they wanted.
