They claim they know God doesn't exist, which is foolish

It's a term that was first used by a previous Arch Bishop of Canterbury as a rallying cry to justify the continuing influence of the Church Of England over the UK Parliament. Until it's use there were no Fundamental Atheists, however the fact that the Church Of England was proposing to curb the constitutional rights of Atheists actually created the very group they were campaigning about!

Atheist fundamentalism is an oft-used snarl word by critics of atheism. It is most commonly applied to more outspoken atheists such as Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens, making a direct comparison between them and religious fundamentalists. Whether the term has any real meaning is debatable, as atheism doesn't have a system of beliefs that one can fundamentally adhere to.

I have seen that a few times here on YA, and I assume the persons who refer to themselves as fundamental atheists are using the term "fundamental" as the dictionary recommends which I will paste for you
Fundamental: Forming a necessary base or core; of central importance:
So, in that light I suppose I am a fundamental atheist. I have never believed that gods existed in any culture at any time. I don't think any thing super or extra natural is responsible for the construction of the universe or the Earth or mankind.
You have to be careful about assumptions, and assuming that all words are used in a religious context can really limit your understanding of the world and the people in it.

Can't exist. Fundamentalism is a movement to recapture an ideological "purity" within a religion, that supposedly has been lost by mainstream adherents of the religion at large. Fundamentalists often assert the primacy of their own idiosyncratic interpretation of religious texts over centuries of acquired knowledge and practice. This puts them at odds not only with the secular world and members of other religions, but also with their less zealous brethren.
So you might as well say a smoking non-smoker!
