Most Elephants live in the open plains and with being so big, camouflage isn't their main defense system. In fact, elephants aren't often threatened by predators. However, sometimes lions or hunting dogs will try to hunt a baby elephant, where the rest of the elephants will surround the young and physically protect them.

Their color matches the tree trunks very well. It does not do them much good out in the open savanna, but they can disappear inside a forest.
