Honey, if he is the person you've described, you're far better off without him even being in your life. You have your whole life ahead of you. I would put the past in the past, bury it all deep. Your past will forever be gone, but your future still your own. There IS a special someone out there just for you. You haven't met him yet, but will when you least expect it. I highly doubt it will make him realise anything but if you want to move on with your life then just go ahead and do it. You have been a doormat for far too long and let him get away with more than most women would.
Divorce him and arrange for access with the children and make sure you get Child Support too, so if he wants to play away from home at least he will have to suffer the responsibilities of being an absent parent.
Go forward, you have served your time.
