Essentially death. Sleep provides your body with relief, so that healing and restoring of immune function can occur. Without sleep your immune system would decrease, and thus you would eventually succumb to death via microbes. That's why you get the flu when you don't sleep.
Other effects of lack of sleep include feeling drowsy, moody, angry and mental. It can also cause increase in depression.

Well, the longest recorded non-sleep was for 11 days. The person didn't die, but was confused and woozy, they did not suffer any long-term medical damage.moral of this story is simple: If you want to look and feel your best, strive for that ideal 6-8 hours a night. But don't sleep too much, cuz that can kill you too. Sleep tight!

While I've beat the record by a long shot, I was 'enhanced' at the time. Things begin to get strange, with that degree of sleep deprivation, even though you are quite aware of these facts at the time. I must say, I am a bit surprised that 11 days is the record, even w/o CNS stimulants.
