Staap It
Moly was attempted years ago, in the late 80s. Like you say to reduce friction, increase velocity, and reduce wear on barrels. IT DIDN'T have the effect the developers were attempting. Sure it can do all of the above, BUT, the downside was very unstable velocity, and secondly, and more of a problem is when the velocity messed up accuracy you COULD NOT get the stuff out of the barrel. Moly becomes imbedded in the "grain" of the steel, and only leaches out slowly over time.
Turned out as a disaster to match shooters, who of course were the ones, who always innovate. As a personal note, you would NEVER catch me running any moly coated ammo down one of my barrels knowingly.

There are many brands of .22lr ammo that arexiated. In fact most of the new "tactical" .22 ammo which is supposedly designed for AR conversions have this sort of coating.

I've got over a dozen 22's and have never encountered leading in any of them.

I probably clean my .22s the least of any guns and never seen a problem.

Some of the Remington 22 LR really dirty up one barrel.
Thanks for all the answers.
