I downloaded the ISO and saved it to a flash drive and it hangs up at the part where it checks if my computer is ready. Am i missing a step? do i need to do something special instead of just saving the iso file to a flash drive?

Yes. You can not install from an ISO file.
You first must BURN the ISO to Disk and uncompress it. Then you BOOT off of the Disk.
Use CDBURNERXP to burn the ISO to Disk. It is a free program.

Just make sure it is not one of the pirated copies. Microsoft intentionally planted some copies for pirates to download. They have something special for people who use those copies that will be directly traced and identified.
