Jeep reliability?

I have an appointment at a dealer for a 2014 Jeep patriot sport 5sp manual transmission with 51k miles for only $12,777. Its the basic model so no power windows type of thing. Its alright with me I'm 20 i dont mind. How reliable are jeeps I've never owned one or anything american or even considered owning one. My girlfriends 03 ford focus is a piece of garbage its always breaking down and it only has 110k on the odometer and her parents are the only owners and her dad does the maintenance. Im used to driving the 93 bmw 325is and my 92 prelude. Which have tons more miles and break down a lot less than my girl's car. Her tie rod snapped right off the control arm today as she was backing up....sigh...

This will be my 3rd car and I will be doing my own maintenance. I can do simple things like change water pumps, alternators...etc

So is this a good car or should i just move on and look into something else? I'm looking for something reliable that can last me a bit before parts start giving out left and right I'm in college so every spare time i get is valuable and as much as i love cars I can't spend it working on them all the time.

Have had several Jeep models . . . . all a lot of fun, but pathetically unreliable.

BUT......according to Consumer Reports, the Patriot is the exception and there are especially fewer problems with the 2014 (at least so far).

I would just think about 51,000 miles in 1 year. That would account for a bargain price......company or work car? ......... all highway miles? I would expect to see complete maintenance records for such a new vehicle.

My dad has a 2014 Patriot and mom has a 2014 Compass both 4x4 with 6 speed automatics. Both have been great so far. Wow 51000 miles is a lot for 1 year you might want to see how much less compared to new. If it has a good warranty beyond the factory power train one and if drives good it might be a good deal. Check to make sure its 4 wheel drive because many are only front wheel drive!

Aside from the fact it's a stick shift, once you've gotten used to how convenient that Jeep is, you may not want a 'car' again.

jeeps are ok. the problems with the patriot are finding used parts...... just not a lot out there. if you plan on owning it for a decade or live in deer country, it might not be the vehicle for you.
