It is my understanding that as a politician he went against the Catholic church on the issue of abortion. That was not insignificant. One cannot "be" Catholic and be a politician who opposes the Catholic church's major issues.

When a person is denied a Christian burial in the Catholic Church it's an excommunication from the Catholic Church in which there are only a few crimes against the Catholic Church that would warrant an excommunication from the Catholic Church.

Should and will are two different things. He will get a Catholic funeral, and a big one to boot. Should he? I don't see why not...he spent a lot of money buying his salvation.

I don't know too much about him, but Catholics who are involved with premarital sex with their fiances, should not be allowed to marry in any church. The person should be in good standing.
