the law that allows 2/3 of a child's ssi away if they gets child support is sad. can anyone justify this? ssi children have special needs.?

SSI is the federal WELFARE program plus you get Medicaid. Welfare programs base entitlement and benefit amounts upon household income. The greater the income the lower the benefit. Why should the taxpayer have to fully support your child when your child has an income of it's own? You should be thankful that the entire amount of the support doesn't count against the child.

So sick and tired of people thinking that they should be supported by the government, particularly the welfare programs, when they have other sources of income and seem to think that that income shouldn't be taken into account when determining entitlement paid for by taxpayers.

That's plenty of justification. What would be unjust would be if SSI DIDN'T CONSIDER the child support when determining entitlement and benefit amount.

SSI is federal welfare, and includes free Medicaid.
it is for people with no, or very little income.
If there is other income for these welfare people, the SSI is reduced, not just for child support, but for any income.

One out of 38 persons (man, woman, and child, in the U.S.) receives SSI, and they all have special needs.
$50 billion a year is given to them in direct payment, plus all medical bills paid for them, plus food stamps for most of them, plus housing for many of them.

Overall, 36 percent of the children were reported to have had disabilities that affected their abilities to do things "a great deal," and for 21 percent their difficulties had very little or no impact. Physical disabilities were most common among children aged 0 to 5, and mental disabilities dominated the picture for the other two age groups: 6 to 12 and 13 to 17.

With that many people getting than much in benefits, well....the taxpayers can only afford so much.

I believe this is sufficient justification.
