How can I get a friend to change their feelings about their birthday? Because of some negative happenings.?

Such as an uncle died, friend lost a pet, the Challenger disaster. I casually mentioned that I had lost a neighbor and now.....drama. I am not an insensitive person..........but this has me walking on eggshells. Love this person but I find it childish. Seems to me if you look for the negative....you will find it. Ideas or thoughts?

You're a good friend! But some people just don't like to think about birthdays. It's a refreshing change from those who shine a spotlight on themselves for the annual celebration of their existence. Just let it go, and treat your pal to a good lunch or night out for no reason. Random acts of friendship are far more meaningful than birthdays, right?

Just tell your friend to accompany you on an erand and instead take him/her out somewhere nice like a resturaunt or a fun family place where thiers great food and games. ..itl take thier mind off the problems for a while and they will appreciate it.. I had a situation like this with my best friend but what I did was I invited her over my house, I made her dinner and made her some margaritas and I bought her a small gift (i didnt have much money at the time)..I love her like a sister and all she needed was my company..we talked and ate and laughed and cried but it was all worth it..she got out all her feelings inside and felt better..
