I'm a quart low on my oil. If I put 1 quart in it, how long can my car keep driving before I need it changed completely? I just realized I'm 1,500 miles over on my oil change. I ask because I'll have the money in a few weeks for an oil change and I only drive it Tuesday and Thursday about 20 miles one way for school 20 miles home. If you are 1,500 miles over an oil change and you change it every 8,000 miles then that is not good. However is you change it every 3,000 miles then you are fine because you are wasting oil and money by changing it every 3,000 miles in the first place. You can go 5,000 miles on almost any car built in the last 20 years. But in any case you are ok to wait a little while longer

What is 1,500 miles over - a total of 4,500 miles since your last change? I'd say you're likely okay for (at least) another 500 miles - with you addressing the low oil level.
