what are some arguments for and against multiculturalism in america?

You might as well ask for the arguments for and against the snow that's falling outside my window. The U.S. has ALWAYS had people from a variety of backgrounds. That's been a strong part of our culture. Acknowledging that now in textbooks and school materials is like teaching that the earth is round instead of flat. It just is.

Multiculturalism has been a collossal failure.

It has wrecked our culture and let foreigners take our jobs out from under our noses.

Before you start lecturing me about immigrants, let me tell you a thing or two about my immigrant ancestors.

My ancestors came to this country to open a new factory. They did not take jobs from people, they created new jobs in a new factory.

Immigration helps the country when there is a shortage of workers, and the economy is growing.

Today, there is a shortage of jobs, and the economy is shrinking compared to population growth.

And most population growth today is due to immigrants and the first generation offspring of immigrants.

So.... in the current circumstances immigration is doing more harm than good.

I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with "multiculturalism" but answer me this: is it really necessary to be a "hyphenated-American". I mean if you are black, everyone can see that... so ???? To identify oneself as "different" from other Americans is not assimilating in that countries societal fabric.

How many people do you hear saying Africa needs multiculturalism?

I rest my case.
