But this one game that I'm looking for has a minimum requirement of 3ghz processor, or close to 3ghz. I was wondering if I would be able to run it at medium settings at least?
I have Nvidia GeForce 840M and 10GB Ram. (Had 12).
Would this help at all? Everything else fits the minimum requirements, except the processor.

GHz isn't a measure of processor power, ignore it, lots of confused people still try to rely on it but it is almost meaningless when determining processor speed.
Neither is number of cores. More cores is not always better, and can sometimes even e worse. Multi-core processing is very inefficient, so a 4 core processor with faster cores will outperform an 8 core processor with slower cores.
If you want to know a processor's speed, look up it's benchmarks, that's the only way to compare them.
The i7s are by far the fastest series of processors out there. I doubt your game will have any trouble running on an i7.
You will be able to run it no problem man as you have an i7 that has 4 cores. When it says 3ghz that means one core so you are good. This is a good test. Download arma II which is the most taking game out there you can get it in the freestuff area below. If you can run that you can run anything.
Without knowing which game it is that you're talking about, I can only assume that they're talking about a very old 3GHz processor, which would be the equivalent of a modern 1.5GHz processor maybe. So you can find out whether your game is compatible or not yourself, by going to the following website:

core i7 has hyper-threading so it has about 8-12 virtual cores, the game will play completey fine coz event he most demanding games only take up 2.8 ghz of 4 cores! go for it!!!
