How to get in through the trunk on a 2001 VW Jetta?

I just bought my son his first car, a 2001 VW Jetta. While he was learning buttons etc, he put the key in the drivers side lock and turned it all the way right, rolling up the windows, locking the doors, and turning on the alarm. Apparently, the lock is broken, because while we can make the horn honk all day turning the key to the right, it won't unlock turning to the left. The only other way I can think to get in without hiring a pop a lock is to go through the trunk. Problem is, I can't find any latches in the trunk to lower the back seat to climb through, Any suggestions?

the latches to lower the rear of the seat are probably available only thru the inside ; looking at images on google, there may be a way to get ahold of a seat latch thru the trunk - it may/may not damage the seat.
