A woman or man who is mentally deranged and believes they are trapped in the wrong body. Many of these people come to peace with oneself by having operations to make themselves look like the opposite sex. It makes no difference because it is not really them; it is all artificial. Everyone is different, Some men are emotional and some women are fighters. There are very few differences between men and women. A chromosome. the genitals, and the breasts of females (can produce milk). So if you believe you are trapped in the wrong body then the only valid reason to believe this is because you think you should have the opposite sex's genitals. That is preposterous. The real reason people are "transgenders" is because they enjoy things that are classified for the opposite sex. For example, some guys may be a bit more feminine and enjoy gossiping and styling their hair. The man feels pressured by society to change and discontinue his activities. Instead, the man adopts the idea of "being trapped in the wrong body" and proceeds to have an artificial sex change. The person is still their original sex, regardless of the physical appearance. If a clone were to be made of the post-op transgender the clone would be of the original gender. No one was born in the wrong body.

A transgender person is someone who believes that they were born in the wrong gendered body. They seek to switch genders medically once they have gone through testing and psychological counseling. there are male to female transgenders, and there are female to male transgendered people. Their DNA will always reflect their original sex. These folks are also referred to as "transsexuals."

Transgender defines a person who has the same brain chemistry as the opposite sex (the gender they identify with and transition to). In other words, their brain doesn't match the anatomy they were born with.

It's an adjective. Adjectives modify nouns. In this particular case, the noun which is typically modified can be either "man" or "woman" depending upon the person under discussion. In no case should it be used as if it is a noun; that is considered to be extremely insulting and dehumanising.
