Generac or Kohler?

Need to have whole house generator installed. Have heard good things and bad about both brands. Opinions from those who have
1. owned both
2. owns Generac
3. owns Kohler

Need to have a whole house GAS generator installed. Have heard good things about Kohler and Generac. Need the quietest generator, as it will be only 5 feet from bedroom.
Do you own a Generac or Kohler? How is the noise, performance, reliability (repairs needed)?

It will be 10K, since my house is small, and I only need it to run the gas heat, refrigerator and a couple of lights.

The larger units to power a whole house is in the 15KW range and many of the opinions given on line are for the smaller portable units. That stated I have a Generac with a Tecumseh engine that ran for many thousands of hours with only a low fuel problem. This was easily solved by refueling it. Talk with the local electrical contractors for service availability in your area. This may be a critical consideration along with the type of fuel you choose.
