Drill won't make pilot holes?
I'm so new to everything, but I've been trying to drill a hole into wood and nothing is working. I've tried using both directions because I thought I was in the wrong one, but it's still not working. Help?

A sharp bit will drill through metal, Wood is like butter, with the same bit.I,m confused and believe you need to hire sommeone, if you can,t drill a hole in a two by four or smaller you have no clue.Go to your local Home depot or Lowes explain what your trying to do and they will help you,Any of the bits in your drill index should have went through wood in a few seconds.

First of all, are you sure it's wood? Some wood can be hard, but pressboard and the like can be really, really hard. Are you using the right drill bit? Is it sharp? Is it tight in the collar? Are you positing the drill on the wood and then starting to drill slowly?
Find another scrap piece of wood and try and drill into that with the drill bit you're using, a smaller one, and a larger one. If you can get a very small hole drilled, you can widen it a little with a larger drill bit.
Other than that...I'm at a loss as to what the problem might be, but I'm not a pro on these things.

Go buy a set of new drill bits and for drilling old wood you will get on better with steel drilling drill bits. Start small and work up to the hole size you need.l A variable speed drill is another esential piece of kit.

Each and every one of the thousands woodworking plans and projects which are available are so well written so that even if you've never tried Woodworking before, or if you have 2 left hands, you would find woodworking a breeze

is the drill plugged in? just kidding..
must have a dull drill bit. wood usually drills pretty easy. you tried both directions. looking from behind the drill, like when you are drilling, the drill bit needs to turn clockwise. probably "dull" drill bit. I have a good supply of them myself.
