I read some where in the literature that people diagnosed with FMS usually have a back ground of abuse. The experts also add that having had a car accident, etc could contribute . They still don't know exactly the cause. There is a theory that youngsters , in an abusive environment , having unusual high events of Fight or Flight responses due to home enviornment causes some changes in the brain, and how it responds to pain stimuli. This too is just a theory.

Sadly, there is no cure for this. My sister has suffered from this for many many years (sadly, many of those years were undiagnosed). There are many good treatments for it though that can help manage and diminish the symptoms and pain of the disease. I would recommend talking to a doctor to get a referral to a fibromyalgia specialist and that doctor would be able to recommend any specialized treatments and meds to help combat the symptoms. It is not curable, but it is a VERY manageable disease!
