When beheaded, ANY animal goes through the process where the brain can no longer access the heart and lungs for oxygen and blood and can therefore no longer be conscious or work at all. If the brain is turned off, then the pain receptors in the brain are also turned off, and so pain can no longer be "felt". The brain is what processes sensations felt and experienced and deciphers pain from a tender touch, and without the brain, nothing is being transmitted or deciphered.
Some chickens continue to move after being beheaded, but I don't believe this is because they are "still alive". Instead, it's more likely that without the brain to guide the nerves, they repeatedly misfire until the body bleeds out.
EDIT: phantom pain in amputated limbs...? Of course. There is a part of the brain that processes body mapping and that is not cut off when the limb is, so sometimes pain is felt where there is none because thé brain still thinks you have that limb (this happens in humans, but other animals as well I presume). But I was pretty certain we were talking about losing a HEAD, not an arm or a leg. Your head comes off, and the instant blood stops flowing to your brain, you're unconscious, and immediately after, you're dead.

Genesis is clear, that was NOT God's intention. Read Genesis. When Adam and Eve were clothed in those animal skins to hide their nakedness I'm sure they understood what you won't accept, that man's sinful behavior has had repercussions on every living thing. Remember this : "7The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 8The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper’s nest. 9THEY WILL NEITHER HARM NOR DESTROY on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
