Mister Kelly
I'm not so much asking about the attributes of the perfume, but the attributes of Jesus saying, "Mary has chosen the good part". What were the attributes of "the good part"?
At the time when Mary poured the perfume on Jesus' feet, she had just seen Jesus raise her brother Lazarus from the dead. Jesus said to Martha, "only one thing is necessary; Mary has chosen the good part and it will not be taken away from her".
At that time, the pharasees were seeking Jesus' life, and after the resurrection of Lazarus, the pharasees would continue to seek Lazarus' life as well. It's not written what all Mary, Martha and Lazarus did about this pressing persecution.
Jesus said in John 15:13, "greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends". Mary had been with Lazarus and Martha at Simon's, where the Pharasees were seeking to take Jesus life. I wonder if the good part that would not be taken away from Mary might have had to do with her being at Simon's in the midst of all the conspiring, and Mary facilitating Lazarus as the Pharasees sought to take Lazarus' life.

The pouring of the perfume is the extreme unction of Christ before His death. He has to get it.
