Hi Joan H,

My name is Mohammed and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.

1. Have you made any changes to the computer prior to the issue?
2. Have you un-installed and re-installed the drivers from device manager

Please try the steps provided from the below link to fix issue related with sound on Dell.

Go to your Windows "System Restore" and open it. Windows always sets a Restore Point whenever updates are installed. This will appear on the System Restore calendar of events. Open it and just go back on the calendar until you find the time and date when this Windows 7 SP was installed. Highlight that date/time and start the System Restore to roll your computer back to that time. Everything should be as it was before the 7 SP was installed. You'll be offered the Service Pack Update again automatically if you want it. I usually wait a few weeks or so before I install any Service Pack to make sure it won't cause problems. You hear about any problems quickly on the internet. A System Restore has no effect on any personal files or anything but the computer settings, so it's safe to perform. Should take less than 10 minutes. Sometimes a Windows Update just doesn't install correctly and you have to do a System Restore. Just note one thing! There's a big difference between a System Restore that I discussed and a System Recovery! Performing a System Recovery wipes ( reformats ) your entire hard drive! That's always done as a last resort! Good luck!
