Why is it so important that we believe in a god (from a religious standpoint) while in our very limited time here on earth?

If god is going to make an eternal afterlife, then we have an eternity to know him and half a relationship, why is he so hung up on us knowing (more like having faith that he exists) about him in the 60-100 years that we are on earth. And if he wants this short relationship with us before the "real" relationship starts in the afterlife then why does he hide himself so efficiently and allow a 'devil" to basically have free range to confuse us in every possible way that he wants to. And he still really expects us to have faith that he exists? That's ludacris and insulting on a rational person intelligence.

It is important only to other believers or those who profit off of your belief....

My daddy died at 36 and natural. An uncle on the other side died at 35 years old. Natural. Then there are all the "accidents".
The Bible teaches that WE are All here being tested! To get to Heaven one has to Believe in God, Believe that God sent the Christ here. Have Zero hate in us!
Even IF a man has sent decades as pastor, then died hating even one person - to Hell!
Heaven is ALL LOVE
The Eternal After life maybe in Heaven-slim or in Hell-more probable!
Why don't you watch "The Lazarus Phenomenon" FREE over this Internet? See what you are asking!

I feel bad for you, that God hides from you. I have no choice to believe because He does not hide from me. I consider myself a rational, intelligent person, and I think it is ludicrous to think that the whole universe, teh solar system, Earth, life, and humans all happened by luck. I have to believe in intelligent design.

Your question stems from a complete misunderstanding of God, sin and heaven (at least from a Christian viewpoint)!

Sin is simply going contrary to God’s instruction in thought, words or deeds. As such it’s impossible for us not to sin or to undo the sin committed previously. This means all mankind lives in the same category called sinner.

God can’t live with sin. It’s not so much of a choice as it is that His character makes it impossible. Since we’re all sinners with no power to remove our sin (or stop sinning) we are not naturally destined to live with God in His home (heaven) after we die. This is not God’s choice. It is entirely incorrect to assert that God is sending anyone to hell. In fact God, knowing we had no means to save ourselves from hell, sent His only son to live a perfect life and then die on a cross to pay for our sin. Our sin has been paid for and we’ve been given a free gift of salvation. For the gift to have any effect, however, we have to accept that gift by acknowledging Jesus as Lord and accepting that He paid the price for us

So yes you have eternity to spend with God and get to know Him but only if He can live with you otherwise you have eternity to know that you might have been able to get to know Him but can't!

Your claim of "intelligence" would be a bit more convincing if you knew the difference between the word "ludicrous" and the entertainer's name "Ludacris."

It would also be more convincing if you didn't formulate your argument by setting up a straw-man argument that you could then conveniently knock down. That doesn't actually convince anybody of anything.
