The old concepts of gods as helper spirits is not the best paradigm through which to imagine religion. It will lead you to miss important ideas and to false conclusions of what its adherents hold.
If you are interested in truth you will use you intellect to overcome these ideas. If you are trying to express humorously your disdain of religion, the attempt falls short.
