How to read the wear indicator groove in disc brake pad, Civic?

The groove is now about 1 millimeter deep, so I'm thinking it is time to have my mechanic replace them soon. But I don't know how deep they were to begin with. Not sure if I should keep using these for a while or not. Can anyone tell me the original depth of the groove or whether I should wait or act now?

2006 Honda Civic LX sedan, front wheels.

When the pad lining itself is less than the backing plate the lining is riveted or glued to it's time for new pads. 2mm or less of lining it's time for brakes. Good luck and hope this helps.

What are you talking about? What you have seen on the brake pad's surface (Grooves) or on the surface of the brake rotor itself ( RED arrow) or what are you talking about?

"Grooves" meant .. nothing , unless the brake starts to have problem with stopping or noise or anything else...

Pads replacement or machining the rotors even replacing the rotors if it's out of specification for the allowance thickness etc and etc ..

Tale a look at the illustration below:

1- Check the thickness (A) of the inner pad (B) .Look at those BLACK arrows) Do not include the thickness of the backing plate.

Brake pad thickness:

New pads thickn4ess: 9.6 - 10.2 mm (0.38-0.40 in.)
Minimum thicknesst:1.6 mm (0.06 in.)

2- I've not mentioned about the outer pad thickness due to a reason: Most of the time, its thickness will be more than the inner pad due to the caliper's force or the pad moving/ sliding on the caliper bracket (See the BLUE arrows).

So: Who gave you the ideas? I'm here to help, a simple Email will do not just for that answer but for .. everything else. Just shoot me an email to: : Liverhuyen2003@Yahoo.com

When that groove is virtually gone you need new pads. In theory, while you can still see the groove there is enough meat on the pads. I'd get it done now, then you don't need to worry for some time.

Doesnt it have a dash indicator for when the pads are low - 40-50000 miles is about typical unless you are a lead boot.
