It depends on the hiker and on the conditions and time of year. Some people can only hike 8 miles a day, some are able to do 20 or 30. It's 2.168 miles long, so do the math. A couple of people have speed hiked it in less than 47 days. But most people take more like 6 months.

Appalachian Trial is goes from Maine to Georgia.
It's over 2000 miles long.
There are people that try to hike the trail in one season.
So, you will be thinking at least 5 months

you didn't ask this but if you think it is a cheap thing to do it isn't. you will eat an incredible amount of food and the little towns and hiking stores along the route often aren't cheap. they often say you will spend $1-1.50 per mile after you already have your gear. more if you like to stop at motels and restaurants whenever the weather looks bad for a few days or you don't walk in pain.
