Law & Ethics/HIPAA question: How can I ask a health care provider to provide information to a specific person or organization promptly?

Out of town hospital/ER said they could not give any information out. The organization I was with needed to know my status, arrange transportation and if I could return to sports activities safely.

THANK YOU ALL. The problem was timeliness. The ER said I'd have to take it up with administration in the morning. The problem was that my organization wanted to know my status for the next day's activities. transportation and getting to a hotel for the night were minor problems.

You can give them permission to release the information. Just provide it in writing. But you can't demand that they send it immediately. You can ask that they send it soon if there's a reason.
