Should a gynecologist have it on file when you are due for your next pap, and any necessary biopsies'?

6 months ago I started going to a new gynecologist (due to a move). The first visit was a consult, as expected - where he familiarized himself with my case. He had told me then that my next visit, that I would need to have a pap and 2 biopsies performed (as I was over due for them).

I went prepared for as such. The visit only ended up being an update, without any mention of pap or biopsy.

Should it be my responsibility to remind my gyno of that, or should that have been noted on my file?

I'm questioning whether or not the doctor is incompetent, or if I failed to live up to my responsibilities as a patient. My logic is: stuff like that should be noted on my file, and he ought to have at least glanced/reviewed my file quickly upon/prior to visit.

You should have reminded him. If your gynecologist is a lot like mine, he sees about 50 patients a day. He probably just took a quick glance at your file and didn't notice his notations about the pap and biopsies.

You're right. One consultation is professional but two is totally unnecessary. Maybe paperwork got twisted. On another note, you shouldn't need a biopsy unless you've had an abnormal pap.
