When destiny first came out, they gave us a game that was half finished and required us to pay for the full story. Now recently they released The Taken king which finally included everything. On the other hand, everyone who bought the original destiny got screwed over and wasted $60 bucks because the new update 2.0 makes the basic game useless. What's going on? Is something happening with the studio?

It's not Bungie that is doing this, it's Activision. Bungie and Activsion have a contract that bacillary said that Bungie makes the game and Activision will market it. However, Bungie can only release what Activision approves. And we all know that Activison only cares about money and will do anything, even release half a game.

No, that's just their marketing scheme. It's not much different than how MMOs work honestly.
Just pretend you're playing an MMO, and instead of paying monthly, you just pay in huge chunks instead.
