why is ballet dancing associated with being a sissy?
I do ballet and it is very hardcore and I think it is like any sport, but people think it isn't...

Many people, especially uncultured have no idea what work it takes as well as ballet being a fine art that doesn't have a long shelf life career for the performers.. I commend your dancing and being in the fine arts.
Ignore all negativity as those folks will never know what a great artistic value ballet is. Just stay away from negativity in your life. Not worth dealing with that as you have no room in your life for it and don't let what people say take up space in your brain ever. It detracts you from doing your very best!

People are just idiots, I guess.
I remember a public-service ad that the North Carolina arts council used to run on TV, showing a muscular guy doing push-ups, jumping rope, etc., sweating his a** off in the gym, while the announcer talked about "keeping the body trained for maximum performance," then at the end of the ad the guy is shown wearing tights, leaping across the stage, picking up the ballerina and whirling around, etc., while classical music plays in the background.
Great ad concept; not very effective in changing stupid people's image of ballet, though, I guess.

Because some (dumb) people think ballet is "girly" so any boy who wants to do girly stuff must be a sissy. Some people just don't get it!
