I am graduating this december with a bachelors degree in social work from the University of Florida with a 3.4 GPA.
i didnt think i was cut out to be an officer, so i went to an enlisted recruiter and went to MEPS and picked a job. however, i feel like i am selling myself short and want to at least try to be an officer. i know that right now i am not obligated to join at this point since i havent officially sworn into the navy.
however, my question is: is it too late??? can i go to an officer recruiter and still put in a package at this point in time even after already going to MEPS and picking a job??

I really don't think you have a chance in becoming an officer in the Navy. They are mainly looking for SWOs, NFOs and nurses. The only OCS options for you are Supply and NFO. All of the SWOs on board my ship have science and engineering degrees from tier one universities. You could serve for a year and then submit a package, but by then they will assume that you have your ESWS or equivalent and excellent recommendations from your LCPO and division officer.
Your situation isn't that unusual. There are people in my division who have bachelor's degrees but for whatever reason never applied to OCS or were rejected. My work center supervisor has a bachelor's in Biology. There is a first class in my division who studied Political Science, a second class who studied Healthcare Administration and another who studied Anthropology.
Best bet for you if you want to be an officer is to stop with enlisting and continue to grad school for a MSW for 18-24 months, then direct commission as a social worker. Your GPA is on the low side for OCS, and the Navy is looking for STEM degrees in OCS candidates, which social work is not.
With a 3.4 GPA in B.A. Social Work, I do not think that you are cut out to be an officer either. But please, do as "Sheryl" and "randy" suggested; it seems that they are very knowledgeable about the Navy.
As for your question, no, it is not too late to back out and apply for a commission. But do not be surprised, if no recruiter (officer or enlisted) wants to work with you again.
you re not eligible to seek commission with only bachelors. to be a LCSW/medical Officer of any sort you need the Masters degree in hand.
if all you wanted was a commission, your only option would be as an Aviator because the degree is NOT any good otherwise and you did not do ROTC. also.,a 3.4 GPA kinda sucks as far as any election board is concerned.
You have a degree...why wouldn't you be an officer? Just go tell your recruiter you refuse to go enlisted and you want to be an officer. He'll jerk you around to try and make you change your mind but if you have a degree and are fit you'll be fine
