What option would you do for a long distance move?

Next year I will be relocating from San Diego to New Jersey for work (2,900 miles). I don't have many big things to move and will be selling most large things like my bed, etc before I leave. Everything should fit in the smallest rental truck or trailer.

Option 1) Rent a small truck from Penske along with a car trailer to tow my Camry. Most reliable option but not cost effective.
($1800 truck + $200 tow trailer + $800 fuel = $2,800 give or take)

Option 2) Buy an F-250 or similar with a shell on the back, then sell the truck when I get to Jersey. I believe the truck market in Jersey isn't as strong in San Diego so I'd probably lose a few hundred dollars, it also takes time to register and sell the truck. Will need to rent a tow trailer for my Camry.
($5,000 truck + $500 maintenance prep + $800 fuel + $300 tow trailer - $4500 truck resale = $2,100*)

Option 3) I love my Camry but it has a lot of miles so I could sell it and buy a mid size pick-up like a Dodge Dakota. Then rent a 5' by 8' trailer and tow it behind ( could even buy then sale the trailer but it's a small hassle). When I got to Jersey the truck would be my main car but not main transportation, subway, bus etc. Trucks are always handy for buying large items plus I love trucks.
($7,000 truck + $500 maintenance prep + $600 trailer rental + $700 fuel - $5000 for the Camry = $3,800)

What would you do? Anything I'm forgetting? I'm aware there isn't food and hotel calculated. Thank you for your input!

I think selling the Camry and buying a small truck to pull a rental trailer would be the best option since you like trucks and can still use it in NJ after you get there. Good Luck with your move.

If your Camry is high mileage, then you MAY be better off selling it or trading for a small SUV like a RAV-4 before you leave. The little SUV has more room inside to pack stuff, and if you still need more space, it will tow a small U-Haul trailer without too much effort.

Option 3 sounds best. Nothing is as handy as a truck, I'd go with a Chevy myself but Dodge would be my second choice.

A Camry has a decent tow capacity.

Get a hitch fitted and buy a cheap trailer. Tow your stuff, and sell the trailer later to get most of your $ back.
