I don't think so. Religions are constructs by man, and as such are falible. If you look throughout history you will see many instances where wars have been waged in the name of religion, even right here in our most recent century. Christianity itself is not immune to this. Think of the Crusades, Prostetants v. Catholics in numerous instances including Ireland, and Christians v. animists in Africa. Religions are a means to control the masses with expectation of blind obedience, and there is a huge difference between being religious and spiritual. Regarding Christianity specifically, I am afraid that what Jesus taught has been perverted to what serves the powers that be best.

Buddhism was the true religion of peace until the Vietnam and Cambodian wars!
?
no!
peace and religion can't go together. less so with any of the monotheist faiths.
Judaism, Christianity and Islam share one core principal, complete domination and blind obedience, every one who thinks differently is evil and an enemy of God and his true believers, how can you have peace with this kind of mind set?

If they follow that part about "blessed be the peacemakers", then they could be. Much of "Christianity" in the past seems to have completely overlooked that sentence, however, and got the whole movement off on the wrong foot.
