I heard someone say that they don't date in Argentina but dating is how you select a marriage partner unless it is an arranged marriage. If they chose their own partner there must be some form of courtship even if they don't call it dating.

It's not formal dating like in the US where someone meets you, calls you, and then picks you up, takes you to dinner, pays for everything, etc, it's much more common to meet in groups of friends. Even if you like a person it's not normal for a man to take a woman alone to a nice restaurant and pay for everything unless it's a special occasion. But when I lived in New York as a student for 5 months it always seemed like formal occasions to go on a date. We usually go,out in groups in Argenitna if it's to dinner. If you have a boyfriend or girlfriend they are brought out with the group, it's not much one to one dating.
