why should the young generation care about the Mona Lisa?

While the "young generation" is usually exposed in school or at home to cultural objects that shaped and advanced mankind's history; far too many are not taught to appreciate the artistry and unusual skills that went on, the immense efforts something took to accomplish with the crudest of implements... painters having to make their own brushes from gathering the horse or goat hairs and shaping the wooden handles, and having to get the raw ingredients and then mix the ingredients to proper porportions for each color they used.

Members of the younger generation are merely TOLD, "this is great art" and "this is a masterpiece" but never told WHY something is considered good art, great art or a masterpiece. It's a shame, really, that many of our younger generation never learn to apprecite art and miss out on culture and refined sophistication but are marginalized to be settle with gratuitous grafitti defacing the buildings where they live, and rapcrap "music" of cuss words idolizing the subculture of gang warfare, violence and abuse of women blasting away, annoying those who must wake up early to attend school or those who need to get up on time to get to work, annoying our elderly for no reason whatsoever.

Meanwhile, so much talent goes to waste... kids with natural talents and abilities never realizing their potential because they've never been properly exposed to such iconic cultural objects as The Mona Lisa.

It is a stunning painting. I first saw it in person when I was in my late 20's, and I thought "I wish I'd seen this earlier in my life". It has a depth of beauty that is rare in any painting, and it is timeless - it looks as though it could have been painted just a few decades ago. The landscape behind the woman is like a netherworld of fantasy, the subject is quietly, silently content in her own private world - she speaks of the desire for contentment amongst chaos. It says a lot to young people today who are bombarded by information streaming at them from everywhere. It's a pause to recognize beauty amidst confusion. An oasis of form.

I don't know. Just be aware of it and maybe read about the significance of it. It's good to know art history if you're an artist.

Define 'young'.

Why shouldn't anyone, regardless of age or any other differentiator, have the right to make their own minds up and explore their own tastes and sensibilities.
