Nobody but a scammer writes to strangers online. Normal people do not go and contact people they do not know, they have never met, or do not have loads of friends in common with. Never write back to anyone who contacts you that you don't know - it's always going to be a scam. Most people don't know that they have enough info on their Facebook page to become the victim of identity theft. Not to mention the thousands of robberies that take place every year because people post vacation pictures, tag themselves in restaurants, change their status that they are at a football game, etc so the thieves know the house is empty. Anyone you have as a Friend that you do not personally know could easily be out to rob your home when you are away. That's why you need to go through your Friends list and delete everyone you don't personally know, or who aren't friends with some of your friends who have met the person and verify they are not a scammer

If some one writes to you that you don't know than it's a scam, don't answer them just delete it.
It happens to thousands of people, they will get exactly the same letter or email as you, if anyone ever wants money or personal information about you, don't give it too them
If they say they are a bank or some other organisation, than ring that organisation and ask them if it's real
