Birthday present for my girlfriend?

My girlfriend of 5 months will have her 19th birthday in June and I don't know what to give her. She is quite artistic and she's going to study architecture next year, so I thought I could give her blackwing pencils, apparently they are the best pencils in the world and I thought it could be something original.. I don't have that much money, so I don't know if I could really afford to give her expensive jewellery like her rich ex boyfriend did.. I know she isn't materialistic, but it still sort of sucks when I give her pencils.. any ideas of what else I could do?

The pencils are a nice idea. A good book about architecture also would be a good idea, just as a bunch of her favourite flowers with a nice card. A quiet (romantic) picknick in the park or on a rooftop also could be great.

It isn't so much about the amount of money you spend on her. It's much more about the intention behind it and the effort you put in it. So don't let your limited budget get you down, instead be a little creative and use her birthday gift as a way to show her how much you care. It's the little things that count much more than the fancy things you can buy her.

I think that's fine. Well actually how about you get her a variety of pencils so she can do her own testing of what is the "best pencils in the world." It'll appeal to her sense of discovery.

I personally like reciving mugs. They just always seem to come in handy, and since I like birds, I have different designs on them. Maybe get her a mug with an animal she likes on it?
Tacky, I know, but I value it all the same.
