The cups are plastic in one form or another. As such, they should be recycled, and KMG does have a recycling program for the K-cups.
However, many of the users do simply discard the cups, and that's a mountain of garbage that can get into the seas and oceans. When (or if) they do, dolphins and other sea creatures are going to try and eat them. And that can lead to problems in many ways, choking being just one.
But don't blame the company -- it's PEOPLE and their bad habits that are the real problem.
