Why do good answers get thumbs down and bad answers get thumbs up?
I gave a very good answer to this question with a link to an article with more information, but I still received thumbs down while the answer that was just an opinion and did not even address the question asked received thumbs up.

The thumbs down is being used here not to show how good or bad an answer is but to show how much someone hates or likes another user. So it is best just to ignore them in most cases. But there are a few people who shout at others and are rude and disrespectful that should get thumbs down. Base your best answer award on the answer not the thumbs up or down.
Because people are stupid. They would rather give thumbs up to a "witty" remark than read a long, well thought out answer. I get a lot of likes on my Answers. Why? Because I give the imbeciles what they want.
The thumb downs are sarcastic thumb ups. At least your answer is getting attention, and it REALLY annoys the people who are trying to turn YOU into THEIR emotional puppet and jerk you around emotionally when you refuse to get angry about your answer being thumbed down. Their intention IS to make you angry so you FEED and enable THEIR EGOS even more by asking questions like THIS question.
Whether asking for it on not, that is a question that even the greatest answer will have opinion in it since it is a controversial topic. Since you were on one side of the issue (intended or not), more people that read the answers were on the other side and gave you the TD.
