Why is rendering a video faster than rendering a game?

Because the video is essentially pre-rendered, so all that's required is to pull the data off the video and show it. With a game, you need to know the position of every object AND the position of virtual camera before you can start the rendering process - and then the amount of calculation required to render a frame is stupendous.
