Question regarding a cell phone tower dump?
This is actually continued from last week about gps bouncing off the nearest tower.
I was told last week in answers that gps works from satellites in outer space whether it be for cell phones or rental cars.
That may be true but cell phone towers do record whether a particular cell phone was in the area at a certain time and date.
Just today on Nancy Grace( i was flipping through channels) she said that for a case in New York investigators are going to do a cell tower dump, meaning that the nearest tower will be checked to see who was in that area at a particular time. It will show which cell phones were near that location. I don't know if the phone actually had to be used to make a call or just simply be turned on for them to find out who was in that area.
So my question is isn't the same true for car rental gps technology? The answeres last week gave the impression that satellites record the data but forgot to mention that cell phone towers most likely also record who was in that area just like for cell phones. After all, car rental gps is probably the same as cell phone gps so they both are tracked by satellites in outer space but are probably also recorded in the nearest cell phone tower? Is that true or not?
Why would they be doing a cell phone tower dump if it wasn't recorded there along with from satellites in outer space?
So is it safe to assume that car rental gps data is also available by going to the nearest cell phone tower and doing a tower info dump?
