Any reservist teachers?

I am a senior college student working on becoming a middle school' elementary school teacher. Teaching and military service have been two passions of mine, and I figured i could get the best of both worlds if i was a reservist in either the Marines or the Navy, while being a teacher. I know the school system would have to honor my part time service, but how would it work if I deployed (lesson plan wise, coming back, etc.). any help on this would be great!

Marines and Navy very slim chance of you deploying at all. You do your weekend drills and 2 weeks in the summer. Quite a few teachers do it just plan their school schedule around it. Having a degree in some areas means nothing to certain branches so no guarantee you would be an Officer if that's what you are looking to do.

Bradley,

Some have that passion, thinking they might escape some of the travails of combat, PTSD, homelessness, etc.

Did you know however, that reservists and National Guard have very high rates of PTSD?

See comments for VA statistics.

Ok people need to get it through their heads, deployments are not happening as often as they did 5 years ago. The odds of your unit deploying is near nil. The US is winding down combat operations. by this time next year, there probably won't be any more deployments.
