Does illegal immigration keep wages down? Please explain?

Yes in the jobs where illegal immigrants work. This happens because there are people, the illegal immigrants, willing to work for a lower wage.

A greater supply of low skilled labor (undocumented third world immigrants) puts the bargaining power in the hands of employers thus bidding down native wages. It isn't just illegals though, it's the H1B's who bid down wages in more technical fields too. Our supply of labor is greater than our demand for it so employers have no market incentive to pay more.

Theoretically, it should keep wages down for those non-skill professions that encourage illegal immigration, such as farmwork and labor-only construction work. For other professions it has almost no effect.

Picture this, you own a business. DaQuan & Tyrele won't work for you unless you pay them $12.50 an hour. Juan & Julio will do the job for $8.00 an hour. Who do you hire?

It's all supply and demand. When we have more people trying to get the same job, the employer can offer less money and still find someone willing to do the job.
