First of, the number of houses plays a role in the amount of candy you get. If every house were to give exactly the same amount, let's say three pieces per house, and you only went to twelve houses then you'd get 36 pieces of candy. So if you went to 15 house, those three extra houses would bump your haul up to 45,

But of course most houses don't give exactly the same amount. Those 12 might actually see something like 4 house give one piece, 2 give three pieces, 3 give two pieces, 2 give five pieces, and 1 gives 6 pieces. Now you're down to 32 pieces, for all you know going to 15 may bump you up to 35 pieces of candy or those three extra houses may bump you to 50 pieces. But as long as they give out even just one piece of candy they'll have increased your haul.

Second, try to learn which houses gave out the most last year. There is no promise this works as last year might have been a fluke with some houses, they bought WAY too much stuff and were just trying to give it away. Or they might have been new to the neighborhood and were just trying to be extra nice. At the same time the folks who lived there could have moved away and the new folks don't give out candy, or don't give out as much candy. But knowing where the most candy was given out last year helps to plan where to go.

Third, ask other trick-or-treaters while your trick-or-treating where to go, where did they get the most candy and what kind of candy did they get where. Back in the '90s we bought Twizzlers in bulk to sell at local flea markets and still had quite a lot left when Halloween rolled around that we didn't bother buying candy that year, we just gave out Twizzlers. I'm not talking the little snack sizes like you find in Halloween candy folks tend to hand out, these were like the 12 to 16 ounce bags you get in the store year round. After the first few trick-or-treaters we started getting kids coming up going "Is this the house giving out the big bags of Twizzlers?" In other words they were learning from other trick-or-treaters what we were giving out and they had to come to our house.

planning over years of where the best candy giving neighborhoods are.

You gotta ask the locals, question everyone who gives the best candy. Every single year. keep a spreadsheet or a map in your closet .
Plan your route and practice it for a couple weeks before the big day.

Incorporate a parents car or van to stash your candy in strategic locations so you are always lightweight and can more easily to each house.

Bring enough bags, wear daiper so you dont have to stop and pee, and be in good physical condition so you arent tired out after 4 hours. and can keep going long after the little kids are gone home.

Just some advice ive obtained over the years... use as you see fit.

Go to more houses. Go where houses are very close together. Inside the city limits is best, although you are likely to get full-sized candy bars out in the country. Neighborhoods around a school are usually a good bet, also.

The only way I can think of is to do one round, come home and change costumes and do another.

Although I wonder why you're not getting much in the first place? If you're giving off a greedy vibe, it could turn people off. Perhaps smile more and people might be more open.

All I can think of.

start at noon and don't stop ringing those bells till at least 1AM. go to a wealthy neighborhood to get a better grade of candy. maybe even a few pennies or nickles.
