Because the US foreign policy today under Obama is the same as it was in the 1030's when other countries allowed Hitler to invade his neighbors and start WWII. If Putin thinks he can get away with the same thing chances are he will. Will the world be safer and better off if Putin controls Syria and rest of the middle east and can control the supply of petroleum to Western Europe?
