Is there software that tracks changes made to the hard drive?

I have a program that resides in the "Program Files (x86)" however I suspect it also has a hidden folder someplace because when I uninstall it (its a database) and then reinstall it, all the old database info is also back on a clean install unless I format the HD and reinstall windows also. I was hoping there is a program that I can install, then install this program, and have a comparison of the hard drive both before and after (including hidden folders and files) in order to see where this program actually resides. (also, somehow it knows on a fresh install not to overwrite this hidden location.)

Did you erase the folder it is installed into after you uninstall it? Have you searched through your "user/appdata" folders for the database? have you searched through the software's settings to see if there is a way to locate the database? Have you looked in the software's registry entries to see if the link to the database is in there?

Good chance there will be another folder caller "Program Data". This is the default location for software to store "stuff" Config files etc.

When you delete the program, those settings are left behind. When you reinstall and run the program it finds the old config files still where it expects them, and carries on as before.
