Push on the brake pedal with your hand gently. There should be 1/4" of free play before the pedal rod contacts the master cylinder piston. If that is OK and the pedal is hard where it works you may need to double check that all the caliper slides are free and that the brake pads move with out too much resistance in the caliper brackets. If you have ABS brakes there may still be air in the ABS pump unit. If the pedal pumps up and grabs higher up with the motor off the brake booster may be bad.

If the free travel is OK and the lines bled the rotors are warped or the wheel bearings shot causing the pads to be pushed too far back.
If yiu pump the brakes do yiu get a much shorter travel?
A good mechanic should have checked this both on the lift and the test drive.
